The New York Labor Day weekend climaxes with a colorful parade.
The New York Labor Day parade 2009 was the grandest ever parade in New York. It is like a celebration for all the Caribbean’s and a tribute to their contributions to the United States. Like every year the parade had over 3.5 million spectators enjoying the carnival. The Grand Marshals for this year were David A. Paterson and Colin Powell, the former secretary of state for US.
In its latest version on Monday 7th September, the sesame flyers were all dazzling in their vibrant attires with feathers and sequins everywhere, the smells of Caribbean food filled up the streets of Brooklyn and the bands were cheerfully playing the West Indian music. The parade was not just a colorful treat for everyone present but also had a great social cause attached to it. This year the theme behind it was to create awareness for breast cancer in the West Indian community.
With the Caribbean bands and artists entertaining the people in the weekend before the parade and the parade summing up all the aspects of Caribbean Culture, it presented a view of Caribbean right in Brooklyn. With elections scheduled, the political parties used this parade as a means to promote their candidates.
Whatever are the reason and the cause, The New York Labor Day Parade binds the people from all across to come and celebrate as one. With the next year’s parade scheduled for 6th September 2010, the sponsors are looking forward for millions more to be a part of this grand experience.
