Just like every year, the carnival atmosphere was electric this time too. Dominica basked in good time glory as the revelers enjoyed with little inhibition. The noise and din; trademark of carnival spirit; was present with fleeting drums and singing mouths.

21st February was the scheduled day for the calypso march. Lord Karessah sent the crowd rocking with his amazing performance and was rendered calypso monarch.

Streets of Roseau were drenched in his singing voice and the crowd opened up their own vocal chords to complete the formality. They danced, sung and made merry whole night. It was only in the morning that they realized they had two more sinful days before Lent begins.

On 23rd and 24th, girls took over. Posing in gowns, bikinis and in-between clothes, they competed for the queen’s spot. They gyrated as they moved to draw appreciative whistles from the crowd. People who were already heavy with booze could not contain their mirth.

The prized city of Dominica held the main carnival with other villages following suit. Their arrangements were obviously of a lesser grade but the enthusiasm was unparalleled. Security was beefed up since a huge crowd was expected in the festival city. People were in too good spirits to think about destruction thankfully. Lloyd Wayland ended the proceedings with De Energizer.

Lent has started and the prizes will be announced on 7th March, but those who were present here have had time of their lives. First time visitors will especially not forget the parades in a hurry.
