Rio carnival holds some special memories and celebrations for all the participants each year and the 2010 version of this event was spectacular than ever before. The enthusiasm and the carnival fever was unaffected by the soaring and unbearable heat. Rio carnival this year was special for more reason than one, with the youngest drum queen and a spectacular win for a samba school after seven decades. The carnival revelers from all across the globe attended the endless parties and danced in the blocos that literally transformed the entire streets into one big party.

The temperatures and humidity were very high for this part of the year all along the southern hemisphere. This bought a record sale in drinks and beers which led to the millions participants line up to empty their bellies. Carnival transforms Brazil into a paradise but this has some serious effects. The number of public toilets increased from last year but this did not stop the people from using streets and gardens as public toilets which along with dirty beaches will now be the biggest concern for the city authorities. This poses a big concern for the official who would be preparing Rio for the Olympics.

Rio carnival 2010 was special for the winner samba school parade that has this title after a gap of 74 years. Unidos Da Tijuca the proud winners of the trophy had It’s a secret as their central theme. The floats were beautifully designed by their Carnavelesco Paulo Barros who congratulated all the participants. Adriane Galisteu the beautiful TV hostess was the drum queen of Tijuca. Though the youngest drama queen Julia Lira gathered a lot of publicity but it could not prevent her samba school Viradouro from bragging the last position among the top twelve. The defeat could be attributed to choosing a child for a role which is normally associated with models who add more glamor to their respective samba schools with their sexy attires.

But the heat and the controversies did not snatch away the celebrities who add more star power to this already kaleidoscopic event. Pop diva Madonna was present in the stands with her boyfriend Jesus Luz who is also a Brazilian. Paris Hilton, Gerard butler, Rodrigo Santoro and Hugh Jackman were also part of the Rio carnival 2010. The Avatar craze was obvious at the carnival with people in blue dancing in the street parties.

Rio carnival 2010 was undisputedly the biggest street party and with the fun that is so native to this carnival there would always be more for all who travel miles to be part of this maddening party.
It was a high time for Paulo Barros, the organizer of Samba club was awarded the prize for his creativity in Rio’s carnival. It was a mesmerising effect for the audience in Sambadrome that defeated Grande Rio and Beija Flor who came second and third in the carnavalesco. Unidos da Tijuca escola de samba got first place with the inherited commitment made by Barros who challenged the competitors. He was enjoying the fruits of success after a long time after 1936 and he gave full credit to the escola. Before this carnival, his gang was criticized by some people and blaming to copy the material of American Hollywood magic tricks and that the special effects were matching with the Brazilian authentic Carnival making victory more auspicious.

Barros when asked about the next year’s preparation he seemed to be rather diplomatic and told he really discovered some hidden secrets this year carnival with his theme “It’s a Secret” to be used for the coming events. Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel got seventh place with Imperatriz Leopoldinense, Portela, Porto da Pedra, Uniao da Ilha and Viradouro as the followers. Sao Clemante who was winner this year rose to the Special Group which was possible only when the latter was relegated to the Access Group.
